Epoxy resin art has exploded in popularity, and for good reason—it allows you to create glossy, customized creations that are both beautiful and functional. One of the most satisfying projects to try is epoxy resin coasters with embedded objects. Whether you're capturing flowers, glitter, or small mementos, this guide will walk you through every step of the process, from gathering your materials to perfecting thefinal touches. 

WhatYou’ll Need 

Before you start crafting, gather these supplies to ensure a smooth process: 

  • Silicone molds made for coasters 

  • Embedded objects like dried flowers, glitter, stones, shells, or small keepsakes 

  • Mixing cups and stir sticks 

  • Heat gun or torch for bubbles  

  • Sandpaper for finishing edges  

  • Cork or felt for coaster bottoms  

  • Gloves and a workspace protected by a plastic mat or paper 

Step 1: Preparing Your Embedded Objects 

One of the first steps is to prepare your chosen objects for embedding into the resin. Any moisture can disrupt the curing process, so this step is crucial. 

  • Flowers  

Fresh flowers can cause issues with resin, so consider drying them beforehand in silica gel or pressing them for a flat finish.  

  • Stones, Shells, or Keepsakes  

Make sure all objects are clean and dry. Wipe them down to remove dust, dirt, or oils. 

  • Glitter or Pigments  

These can be used as fillers or accents. Have them ready toadd into layers of resin. 

Step 2: Mixing and Pouring Resin  

This is where the magic happens! Follow theseeasy steps to mix and pour resin perfectly: 

  1. Mix the resin and hardener according to the instructions on the packaging (usually a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio). Slowly stir to minimize bubbles.  

  1. Once fully mixed, pour a small layer of resin into your silicone molds. Use a heat gun or torch toeliminate any air bubbles.  

  1. Place your prepared objects onto the surface of the resin, arranging them however you like.If doing multiple layers, pour more resin over the objects carefully andeliminate air bubbles between pours.  

Pro Tip: Wear gloves to avoid getting resin on your skin, and work in a well-ventilated area. A respirator is recommended. 

Step 3: Curing and Demolding 

Curing epoxy resin takes patience. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth and flawless set: 

  • Allow the resin to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions—usually about 24–72 hours. Avoid touching or disturbing the molds during this time to prevent surface imperfections.  

  • Once cured, gently remove the coasters from the silicone mold. If the edges feel a bit sharp or uneven,don’t worry—that’s where finishing comes in. 

Step 4: Finishing Touches  

Your coasters are almost ready! Now, give them a polished finish and prepare them for actual use. 

  • Sanding the Edges  

If the edges of your coasters are rough or uneven, sand them with fine-grit sandpaper (wet/dry sandpaper works best). Do this carefully to avoid scratching the glossy surface.  

  • Adding Cork Backing  

To protect your furniture and give your coasters a professional look, attach cork or felt bottoms. You can easily find peel-and-stick cork sheetsonline, or adhere them using a strong glue.
